Cercestis mirabilis (commonly known as the African embossed plant or African embossed aroid) is a rare, striking tropical perennial herb native to the lowland rainforest canopy of West and Central Africa. A member of the Araceae (aroid) family, it is highly celebrated among plant enthusiasts for its dramatic, structurally unique foliage and its fascinating growth habits.
As the plant matures, it undergoes a dramatic transformation: its juvenile leaves are compact and arrowhead-shaped (sagittate) with complex, feather-like silver and white variegated networks. When it becomes an adult climber, the silver markings fade, the leaves can grow up to 24 inches (60 cm) long, and they develop large fenestrations (holes) similar to a monstera.
